I am proud to be a native of Douglas County (since 1964). I was the first Museum Manager of the Pine Mountain Gold Museum when it opened in 2008. I fell in love with this property. It touches so many in the same way and I always say, “It’s a God Thing.”
Carl Lewis, Historical Preservation Coordinator of the museum, began his love and care for the property in the early 1970’s. Because we were neighbors and friends in those days, I’ve heard Carl’s stories for a long time and hold so many beautiful memories and stories of the land even before it was acquired by the Stockmar family. It’s time to put these memories on “paper” and record all the stories of the people who have loved it and lived it.
As our project evolves, please remember that I am not a historian. I know many historians who have given their time and heart and soul to the documentation and authenticity of the history of Villa Rica and Douglasville. I’m only a “Storyteller.” If you have a personal story to share about the Stockmar Park area, please complete the form below and I will enjoy listening to your memories too.
This is a wonderful labor of love and we need input from anyone who was connected to the Flying S Ranch and the Stockmars.
